Logitech HD webcams. So much more than HD.

The exact shade of green in your granddaughter’s eyes. The dimple in your mother’s cheek. Everyone’s excited about HD. That’s why we’ve offered it in our webcams for more than two years. (You can get HD in the Logitech® Webcam Pro 9000 and the Logitech® Webcam C905.)

But HD—by itself—isn’t the whole picture.

Logitech HD webcams—Clear and smooth

We all know that HD looks great. It’s all about getting more pixels—the smallest unit of a digital image—into your image. But a video is a moving image. And if your webcam isn’t able to capture enough images in succession, then your video won’t be smooth.

Imagine you’re watching the 100-meter dash on TV, but the broadcast only shows the runner’s every third stride. You need a certain amount of frames per second (fps) to preserve the illusion of continuous motion. Fps refers to the number of frames of movement captured and transmitted per second. The lower the fps, the more you miss.

At a lower frame rate—say, 10 fps—you might see some strange things in your video. Lips out of sync with the audio. Jerky head movements.  (And really, who wants to look like that?)

Logitech HD webcams offer HD video at a fluid 25 fps. So while some webcams say they have HD, only Logitech HD webcams make your videos clear and smooth.

Perfect for YouTube, Facebook and family

An HD webcam can record an HD video, but it can’t transmit an HD video call—yet. A Logitech HD webcam can record at the 720p video resolution, or 1280-by-720 pixels.

Today, the maximum resolution for video calls in Logitech Vid™, Skype
, Yahoo®, or Windows Live™ Messenger is 640-by-480 pixels, otherwise known as VGA resolution. And these video-calling programs—including Logitech Vid™—can transmit video at VGA resolution and 30 frames per second (fps).

So why choose an HD webcam if you can’t make HD video calls? Today, an HD webcam is perfect if you want to record video and post it on YouTube™, which now displays HD video. If you want to post a video clip of your band or your toddler’s latest move on Facebook™ or your blog. Or if you want to e-mail a clip to your friends and family.

Even more than resolution and frame rates

We love HD. But getting better resolution at a reasonable frame rate is only part of the story. There’s a whole lot more that we put into a Logitech webcam so you can connect with your friends and family, including Carl Zeiss lens design, autofocus, RightSound and more.
